From those behind some of the capital’s best intimate venues – including Moth Club and The Shacklewell Arms – Wide Awake “aims to provide a distinctive counter-culture experience like no other London-based festival.”
“We’re proud to provide a platform for so many great up-and-coming bands. And stay tuned, we’ve got some surprises in store before the summer.”

Festival director Marcus Weedon says: “We’re thrilled to be putting on an event with an ethos that doesn’t really exist at an outdoor festival in London at the moment. It’s great to give bands like black midi, Shame and Goat Girl that have grown out of the South London scene a festival gig in their back garden.
]]>“I don’t need no specific champagne brand, white flowers or special water from Nepal to feel comfortable.”
Solomun
We asked him about his new residency at Pacha, his special relation with Warung and Holland and his upcoming gig at Xtrema Outdoor on July 13th in Eindhoven. Also we were wondering what his favorite color is..
What place on earth feels most like coming home besides your home in Hamburg?
– At the moment I have to confess that at the moment it’s Ibiza because I spend quite a few time there this summer.
But when we talk about home and speaking of Hamburg, what is you favorite spot in Hamburg besides EGO and your own place?
– I love the port, the big ships, the wideness …
Next to the Diynamic return to Sankeys you also have your own residency in Pacha for this summer with 19! editions. Solomun + 1 with some interesting names, DJ Hell, Roisin Murphy, Tensnake, Miss Kittin, Ame and Nick Curly to name a few. What do these artists mean to you?
– These amazing artists all have one thing in common: I know, appreciate and respect them for quite a long time. And so it was for me quite obvious to ask them for joining me with my first own residency on Ibiza.
“The main problem is that it started as a sorta subculture of boom-clap hip-hop … but then every sampled music with static recordings was put in the same category.”
The numerous channels that created them have become sensations, raking in thousands of listeners and carving out a loyal fanbase who turn to the tracks and mixes for soothing background music as they work or study. However, the popularity of lo-fi has brought a number of detractors, and some feel the genre has become a parody of itself.
There are similarities to the lo-fi hip-hop craze — Maël occasionally makes what they’d consider lo-fi tracks, but is keen to find a way to put “soul” and concepts into the music. They also cite YouTube as a place where they have found popularity.
I was in a cheesy mood,” they said. “It gave me the opportunity to establish a character that a lot of people could relate to, and expect to act as they imagine it.” They worked with others — vocalist Nori and artist Sarlisart — to bring the concept together. It resonated with people, and the YouTube video has since been viewed over 6 million times. In fact, numerous songs by Maël have racked up millions of views, as well as adoring comments from people emotionally connecting to the music.

]]>Last week saw the rollouts of the Lollapalooza and Woodstock 50 lineups, and despite their drastically different locations, the tops of their lineups didn’t look much different from Coachella, Governors Ball, Boston Calling, Bonnaroo and the rest of America’s biggest festivals.
” With the number of festival options that are more affordableit’s never been a better time to seek out a new festival. “
David Berkins, music critic
The best advice for fans clamoring to get tickets? Save your money, considering music festivals have turned into a homogenized gimmick for big businesses that barely allow concertgoers the serendipity of discovering new acts.
Festival culture is here to stay, with Nielsen Music estimating that 23 percent of the U.S. population attended a music festival in 2018, up from 18 percent in 2017, the biggest year-over-year growth of any kind of live music event.
But, save for the music fest superfans, or VIP attendees looking to splurge on a special weekend whatever the cost, America’s biggest music festivals have only become less attractive for the average fan to attend, from the often-prohibitive costs to the homogenization of many fests’ lineups.
“That’s something we’ve been trying to do since day one,” Albarn adds. “But we still haven’t found a system that doesn’t compromise the music. That’s the dream — to be able to play onstage with holograms. I just hope I’m a functioning organism when it happens.”
Gorillaz’s current tour runs through the end of October with dates throughout North America. It features a pretty solid cast of members, from instrumentalists to guest vocalists, about the same construction that was on the road in support of Humanz in 2017.
As for other dreams? He’d love to get Grace Jones involved one day, and the ever-present rumor of a Gorillaz movie? “When I switch on my Netflix and it’s on, I’ll believe it.”

While the group’s faces aren’t visible, the word ‘TOUR’ features at the bottom of the poster, alongside the telling caption ‘April 2020. Stay tuned.’ Posting on Twitter, one BTS fan wrote: “Best part of 2020 is getting to spend time with ARMYs and @BTS_twt. Tour hasn’t even started yet but we all know it’s going to be the best part of 2020.”
Others have speculated that it could be the follow up album to their 2019 comeback Map Of The Soul: Persona. The latest exciting development for BTS fans comes after the K-Pop giants hinted that a collaboration with Billie Eilish could be on the way. At the Variety hitmakers brunch in Los Angeles earlier this month, BTS and Eilish met and posed for photos together.
